PRESERVING THE UNION—MILFORD IN THE CIVIL WAR
The Battle Of Mt. Repose

Pictured above: The Milford Union Regiment took part in the only Civil War battle to be fought in Clermont County.

The Battle of Mt. Repose was fought in 1863 when a man history now only knows as a Major Potemkin received a telegraphed order from General Grant to round up all of the dragoons in the county, give them brown uniforms and have them reach the front to fight soon. Unfortunately, Potemkin had a rather poor grasp of Morse code and thought he was ordered to round up all of the buffoons, give them clown uniforms and teach them to grunt like a baboon. Mt. Repose remained occupied by the Confederacy until hostilities ended in 1865.
