PLANTS ETC. I'm
not a botanist—I'm not even close. It would be a daunting
undertaking to catalog Florida's plant life. I can't even create
an
expert description of the plant life in one yard. Allow me to
present a small selection of photos. It seems as if something is
always growing or sprouting here. Indeed, the very name Florida
refers to flowers. I spent a few days walking around the Florida
Panhandle taking photos of flowers. See them here: FLORIDA

the
dozens and dozens of different plants in the yard. There may be 4
or 5 just in this small sample.

I lean to the elf theory. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Magnolia seed pod ![]() Crepe Myrtle seed pods ![]() ![]() ![]() Trees and vines interact as each reaches for life sustaining sunlight. We get oxygen as a result! ![]() There is an indomitable spirit of survival in nature! ![]() We come full circle. This
website started with huge oak trees and we end with the tiny acorns
from which they grow. There is so much more to life on this third
of an acre. I've seen many other birds and insects but didn't
photograph them. I once stood in awe as I watched a small bird
chase and attack a large hawk that had apparently threatened its
nest. It was fascinating. Camera around my neck, I lamented
that someone should have photographed the confrontation.
Every single day I walk on ground that is a world unto itself. Plants of all sizes, worms, insects and microorganisms abound. Algae, moss and other living things are everywhere. Dead and decaying things feed the next generations. Plants retain moisture and provide shade for other life. Bees and butterflies feed even as they pollinate. Birds and small animals plant seeds and fertilize the ground. Predators and prey interact. In the rainforests and other heavy forests, there is a whole world up in the canopy. Bodies of water have their own complicated world! The mountains have their own world. The world's deserts are complex. And at night, everything changes everywhere! Other creatures emerge. It's a different but equally fascinating world at night! Nature is the greatest show on earth! I hope you've enjoyed this site. Every single photo was taken on, or from, this 70' x 210' lot. I hope you'll create your own website for your part of this earth. It would be a great project to do with the kids! You could teach them about cameras, computers and websites—or they could teach you. Most of all, you can teach them to make peace with nature. Some believe this wonderment is an ongoing example of natural selection at work. Other equally sincere people believe God went to a lot of trouble to give us this amazing world. Still others believe both explanations to be true. What do I believe? I believe I'm in awe of everything I encounter! I'll leave you with a smile:

smart. This Bluebird was spotted reading a sign in my yard.
Big deal! If she is so smart, how come she moves her beak when
she
reads?
