UWF JANUARY MEN

UWF dropped 2 tough games in January.  The Argos continue to play hard.  Even when a game is out of reach they continue to dive to the floor and rebound.  We have good players and good coaches.  At this lofty level of competition, just about any team can win on any given night.  Teams are well matched and luck and streaks help decide the encounters.

NOTES ON PHOTOGRAPHY

My photos don't do justice to the modern athlete. The UWF basketball players are far more athletic than my photos suggest. I've missed some great shots simply because I stood in awe at some particularly great moves. It's hard not to be a fan of these men and women!  I have more photos from these games and will post them if there is intererst in doing so.

Indoor lighting precludes using the shutter speed needed to capture the real action.  Compensating with a high ISO leads to the "noise" that gives photos an uneven and fuzzy lack of sharpness. Better equipment  can help.   If you plan to photograph these games, get the fastest  lens you can afford.

I'm still experimenting with my "average" equipment.  These were mostly shot at f4, 1/125, ISO 1600 and 75mm focal length.  By contrast, I often shoot outdoors at 1/3200, ISO 100 and focal lengths over 300mm.  Examples of better lighting results:

As the above photos indicate, UWF has a great athletic department.  There is a 14th team at UWF and they don't get near the recognition they deserve.  Today's college cheerleaders are both athletes and performers.  They combine dance and gymnastics in their own unique performance.  They entertain even as they focus spectator support for the team on the floor.
