THINGS ARE LOOKING UP!  THE BIRDS I'VE KNOWN!

Drama At The Bird Feeder

Ounce for ounce, I'll bet on the Bluebird in a fight!

Smooth landing

A Mourning Dove was first to attempt to get the food.

A Blue Jay swooped in to challenge the dove.  Immediately, a female Bluebird came in as they crashed into each other.  Both intruders left.

A squirrel was next and he didn't even see the male bluebird coming!  He got pecked repeatedly
on the head and body and even tried to use his tail to shield his body to no avail!

The male bird attacks as the squirrel uses its tail as a shield.

The female partner attacks!

The male attacks again!

The male glides in to join his partner.  Some birds mate for years or even for life!

A Bluebird slams into the squirrel!  I honestly believe the squirrel rose up, not knowing the bird was coming to peck him again.

"No mas, no mas!"

"To the victor belongs..."

Female Bluebird

Male Bluebird

Before you wonder how much alcohol I put in the bird seed—I found out later that the Bluebirds were
using part of the feeder as a nesting box!  I've seen birds attack humans, dogs, cats, squirrels and
snakes that got too close to a nest.  I think I'll leave Condor and Pterodactyl nests alone!

THE WREN NURSERY

I knew the Wren family was getting ready for the little ones to fly away and I tried to keep track.  I got there
just as one of the parents got there with some food only to find the nest empty!  The adult caught up with the
young one in my garage and delivered the last morsel of food.  It looked for all the world like a kiss!
