APRIL
26TH, 1953 FIRST COMMUNION AT CHRIST THE KING CHURCH...The
School Was Called Cardinal Pacelli School...The Pre-Papal Name Of Pope
Pius XII. There Is Evidence Accepted By Some Scholars That
Pius XII Was On Cooperative Terms With The Nazis In WWII. It
shouldn't
matter with my Communion...I think my deal was directly with God. |

A religious medal and my first prayer book. Circa 1953. The prayer book contains instructions for receiving a ten year indulgence and a total indulgence. Catholics believe in Purgatory...kind of a Buddhist Bardo state where you must serve a certain time period for each of your sins. An 10 year indulgence gets you out of 10 years of Purgatory. A plenary indulgence is total...getting you out of all the time you were to serve! The abuse of these indulgences (the church once sold indulgences!) helped lead to the Protestant Reformation. |
FRESHMAN
ENGLISH 1959 Miss Velma Heiserman
attended the
same school in the years 1916-18. She never married and lived
across
from the school. They actually gave you school credits for
reading
stories and poems! Cool. I'm not sure she gave anyone in
the
class an "A." |
AL
BUNDY IN THE MAKING! Man did we ever
think we
were cool. I still get a kick out of seeing a young guy strutting
down the street so full of himself. My father attended only one
of
my baseball and basketball games over three years of varsity play but
he
kept this and literally dozens of newspaper clippings about my
career.
He cared in his own way.

A
LEGEND IN MY OWN MIND! THE GUY DIRECTLY BELOW ME IS JOHN
WARD.
WE ARE THE CLOSEST OF FRIENDS TODAY. JOHN WAS AN EXCELLENT
ATHLETE
AND A TOUGH GUY. TODAY...HE'S A GREAT MAN! |
FIRST
PAGE OF AN ARTICLE I HAD PUBLISHED IN 1967 CRITICAL OF THE VIETNAM WAR.
Replace the word Vietnam with Iraq and it still works. When will
we ever learn? |
A
JOURNAL ENTRY IN 1967 PONDERING THE MYSTERIES OF EXISTENCE. I
probably have the world's largest collection of journals and
unpublished
manuscripts. |
ARTIFACTS
FROM THE 60'S. HISTORY HAS PROVEN
WE WERE
RIGHT! |
A LETTER FROM PROFESSOR WILHELM EXILBIRT. He was the most respected professor in the university. He had escaped the Nazis in the years prior to the war in Austria where he received his PhD. We talked a lot. In the letter he recounts recommending me for graduate studies. I had a similar relationship with Professor Martin Greenman of the Philosophy Department. |
AN
OLD DRAFT CLASSIFICATION CARD. I-A but I
had
a good lottery number. I don't have the old actual draft
card.
Few people do. I think you had to turn them in when they drafted
you. Many of the others were destroyed in a series of small fires
that swept college campuses in the 60's and 70's. |

A NEWSPAPER ARTICLE ABOUT ME WHEN I WAS AN ARCHAEOLOGIST. |
.
I RAN A FULL MARATHON IN 1981. Never again. Four hours and three minutes. The time would have been better but I was carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders...that and the fact I weighed about 240 pounds. A real athlete would run the race in about half that time. |
